Jukebox Arcade 1.3.6 - Visualization Control and Administrator Rights

In order for Jukebox arcade to properly control Windows Media Player visualizations, it needs "write" access to certain locations in the registry. These sections are not generally available for writing be Jukebox Arcade since it is not the owner or creator of these sections. If you are running on certain versions of windows (like XP) as administrator, then you will have access. If you are running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, and User Authentication Control (UAC) is enabled you will be prevented in most cases.

Fixing this is easy, and can be done in a few different ways. use the one that best suits your needs.

  1. Change the permissions to allow write access to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer". This requires using regedit, and administrator access. I suggest giving "Full Control" to a selected user or group.

  2. Run the program as administrator. If you right-click on the shortcut or the StartMenu item and choose properties, then go to advanced. There is an option to "Run as Administator". When you run the program, you may be prompted to acknowledge or enter the Administrator password.

  3. Disable UAC. This works in Vista if you are logging in with a user with Admin privileges. This can be done by running "msconfig" and choosing "Tools", "Disable UAC" and clicking "Launch". *** WARNING *** Disabling UAC opens certain vulnerabilities on your computer. I recommend reading THIS before choosing this option.
